Hi everybody,

it’s been a while, but I finally found some time to create an ambigram again.

I was asked by Bishop (take a look at his website: www.scarletcarnival.net) to create an ambigram of his two sons’ names “Ian” and “Tristan” for a tattoo. Even though it seemed impossible to me to fit these two names into one glyph, because of the great difference in lengths of the two names, I gave it a try. And it worked out!

I think I will really try to do a small series of Bond-related ambigrams. Up next:

As you can see, this was a tough one and it’s far from being perfect. The’ u/it’ combination looks awkward, the ‘M’ is hard to read and I’m mixing upper and lower case letters. But I’m pretty exited that I found a solution at all…

Goldfinger is one of my all-time favorite Bond movies and nice ambigram, too

Hmm, maybe it’s a nice idea to do more Bond-related ambigrams…

Sorry, late blogging again!
The results for the last ambigram.com ambigram challenge were posted on 19th of february, but unfortunately I had no time to post my submission. Until now. So, here it is:

This contest was a sponsored one, the sponsor being award-winning magician, juggler, pick-pocket and bullet catch Dan Chan. There were a variety of words to combine and I chose “Dan Chan / Magic Man”, partly because of the rhythm and rhyme.
The ambigram was not easy to create, but I’m very pleased with the result. I managed to create consistent letters and I think I found a creative way to build the capital ‘M’s.
Unfortunately there was a whole bunch of real high-class ambigrams I had to compete with and I didn’t place. You should really take a look at the results, some of them are mind-blowing! So, once again it’s: ‘Better luck next time!’ for me

And once again, here’s my version of the current ‘Quick Draw’ challenge’s word:

I tried to achieve a clean, art deco (well, not really) style to match the look of movie of the same name.
I’m not really happy that I was forced to use a small ‘r’, but it would have been much more difficult to design a legible ambigram without the centered ‘O’.

“Boneshaker”, rotational ambigram

Boneshaker ist one of the most popular soundsystems in Krefeld, the town where I live. It’s run by some friends and acquaintances of mine, but I must confess, I’ve never been to one of their parties.
I tried to stick as close to the original logo as possible, even though the design was made in a hurry, as most of my ambigrams are made these days… maybe that’s why it lacks much of the dynamics of the original design.

Today the results of the latest “Quick Draw” challenge were released on ambiram.com. Ryan McCourt an Ed Xander, both seasoned ambigrammists, had a real tough problem to tackle: the phrase “I am Spartacus”. Here’s my take on the problem:

The main problem with this ambigram was the ‘I/S’ inversion. I still think the last ‘S’ is really hard to read. The other problem is that it is difficult to separate the single words. And before I forget it: The ‘c’ is very hard to read. So, as I said, a tough challenge…

Another fast ambigram, this time in classic Blackletter style. As I wrote before, I usually don’t like using Blackletter for several reasons, but this time it fits the theme perfectly.
